Liz Williams

Chair / Education Lead

It’s my great privilege to be chair of Mindfulness Wales/Meddylgarwch Cymru and to work with my amazing Trustee colleagues and our wider network of Friends in taking forward our vision of sharing mindfulness to help Wales become a more compassionate, kinder, fairer society.  My background is in education starting as a teacher and headteacher and ending as Head of Children and Young People’s Strategy in the Welsh Government.

I trained to teach MBSR and MBCT but I now focus on the range of lighter touch programmes aimed more at the general population. My main priority is in education with staff and pupils of all ages and I work with the Mindfulness in Schools Project to train staff all over the world to teach their programmes.  I’m also involved in teaching Compassionate Mind Training to staff and pupils in collaboration with the University of Derby.

All of this fits beautifully into our Nurturing Mindful Communities project and I’m looking forward to finding out more about the mindfulness happening already all over Wales to help us weave mindfulness into all sorts of communities.

Heather Fish

Heather Fish

I’m really pleased to be a founding Trustee and the Secretary of Mindfulness Wales, and being part of this great team of people.

I started practicing mindfulness in 2009 when I experienced growing anxiety and was looking for something to help.  Discovering mindfulness was so powerful that it led me to embark on the teacher training pathway.  Since then I have taught open MBSR classes in the community, developed and delivered University modules in workplace mindfulness, and worked with a local authority over a number of years as part of its strategy to bring mindfulness to schools, starting with staff well-being. My academic specialism is mindfulness in the workplace, and to this end I have worked with many organisations of all sizes.

More recently, the challenges of chronic illness a significant bereavement have presented themselves, and mindfulness practice plays a large part in helping me face and manage this deluge of loss.

On a lighter note, I am a performance poet, and enjoy my family and life by the sea.

Matt Jones

Secretary

Hi everyone! I taught for over thirty years in a primary school in Rhondda Cynon Taf, and have been involved in learning and sharing mindfulness for about ten years. After taking an eight-week mindfulness course with the Mindfulness in Schools Project, I went on to train to teach mindfulness to children and to school staff. Now retired from teaching, I am working part-time for a mental health and wellbeing charity and I attend a weekly meditation group in the Rhondda. In my down time I enjoy watching live music, spending time in nature and travelling in our trusty campervan, Idris.
I was delighted to be invited to join the board of trustees of Mindfulness Wales, and am currently acting as secretary to the group. I look forward to supporting the aims of the charity in any way I can.
Natalie Snuggs

Natalie Snuggs

Hi, I’m Natalie Snuggs and have recently become a trustee for Mindfulness Wales after being involved with the charity for several years. I began learning and teaching meditation over thirty-five years ago following a difficult time with undiagnosed genetic health conditions and found it so helpful that when I became a secondary school teacher I started to introduce some of the techniques into my lessons and ran lunchtime meditation groups for staff.
When my health deteriorated further and I could no longer teach full time I took further training with the British School of Meditation to become an accredited meditation teacher and it was then that I discovered how mindfulness could support good health as well as managing long-term health conditions. I went on to complete a research Masters degree at Bangor University researching the beneficial effects of MBSR and MBCT type programs for women with late, mis and non-diagnosed conditions. For the last ten years I have focused on teaching mindfulness programs which are based on MBSR, MBCT, MBCL and ACT and I also adapt these for different groups to create accessible programs for people who prefer a less formal approach. I also trained to teach Qigong so that I can provide mindful movement classes as this has been crucial for my own mobility as my condition has developed, and I teach all ages from pre-birth to 100, including adapted classes for wheelchair users.
Mindfulness Wales promotes the well-being of the people of Wales as well as being a fantastic resource for teachers and practitioners and I’m very proud to be a part of this important work. I am excited to see where this will take us over the next few years.

Ann Thomas

Helo / Hello, I am grateful to serve as a trustee with Meddylgarwch Cymru / Mindfulness Wales. My connection with mindfulness has grown steadily over the years, weaving together my love of creativity, nature, and gentle awareness. In 2024 I completed Look Again mindful photography training, which deepened my appreciation for slowing down, seeing clearly, and meeting the world with curiosity and compassion.
Alongside my work in community wellbeing and creative facilitation, I am committed to supporting accessible mindfulness practices across Wales. It is a privilege to contribute to the vision and governance of Mindfulness Wales, and to help nurture spaces where people can reconnect with themselves, each other, and the natural world.
