Look Again Mindful Photography

This is an 8-week creative mindful photography project for young people aged 16–25 in Newtown and the surrounding areas.

This is a partnership project delivered by Look Again mindful photography, Mindfulness Wales, Powys County Council’s Powys Together project and Oriel Davies Gallery, with funding from the Ashley Family Foundation and Community Foundation Wales. We are working closely with the Newtown NPTC college to coordinate and support referrals into the project.

Mindfulness Wales is a charity with a mission to support the wellbeing of the people of Wales by weaving mindfulness into the life and work of our communities. We recognise that this is best achieved in collaboration with the local communities.  For more information on our organisation, please visit our website:

We see mindful photography as a gentle and accessible way into mindfulness, that brings mindfulness together with creativity and connection with nature. For more information on Ruth Davey and her evidence-based approach to mindful photography, please see here:

Mindful photography to improve wellbeing, grow resilience and spark regenerative change. Reframe your now and help create more hopeful futures.

The course will be based at Oriel Davies Gallery, with guided photography walks around Dolerw Park, the river and Newtown, culminating in an exhibition of participants’ work at the Gallery in February and March. The exhibition will help to share the participants’ perspectives, helping to bring the community together in a hopeful and constructive way.

The project has been developed in response to the very real challenges facing young people in the area, including grief, anxiety, overwhelm, uncertainty and isolation. It offers a gentle, creative and supportive space where young people can step away from some of these pressures, connect with others and explore different ways of seeing themselves, their lives and their future.

Through creative photography, mindfulness, and nature connection participants will have an opportunity to:

  • slow down, notice and develop greater awareness and perspective
  • express themselves creatively and explore their experiences in a different way
  • build confidence, resilience and hope
  • spend time outdoors and connect with natural and built environment
  • meet and create alongside other young people
  • explore ideas about themselves, their community and their future
  • celebrate their creativity and perspectives through a public exhibition

There will be 8 in-person group sessions for the young people, starting on 24th November 2026.Recognising the wider impact, it also includes a one-day mindful photography workshop for staff of local organisations referring into the project and supporting the wellbeing of the young people in the area.
