PENNY MOON – A Quiet Place

Oct 24, 2025 | Wales Stories

“Quietening the chattering mind is a difficult skill but enables us in life (and schools) to access learning and usefully manage stress as we go through life’s adventure.” (Penny Moon)

A Quiet Place is based in Liverpool but also operates in North Wales. It was founded by Penny Moon in 2005. It offers development programmes for the workplace and schools, as well as personalised support for individuals. The approach draws on a range of holistic methods, with secular mindfulness running through its core. The programme has been adapted to work in schools and beginners of any age. Using a ‘Train the Trainer’ model she also teaches others to deliver the programme.

Penny has nearly three decades of varied experience in workshop facilitation, teaching, emotional and behaviour development, psychotherapy, complementary medicine, educational therapeutics and child, parent and family support. She began her mindfulness journey when she trained as a yoga and mindfulness teacher in 1980. She still has a strong personal practice of Compassion Yoga which she blends together with her mindfulness practice.

Penny has written a range of books and resources (available via her website) which include ‘The Practical Wellbeing Programme’ and ‘The Mindfulness Workbook’. Her book ‘Teaching Mindfulness in School’ was written to offer some basic techniques that are quick and easy for children and staff to access. She says:

“For me the children are precious, and we have to be careful that we don’t make our simple basic practices too precious!”

Her hopes for the future include sharing her knowledge, experience and unique approach with other schools, universities and communities.
