It’s not always easy but that’s often the point

Sep 26, 2025 | Wales Stories

“A way of living our lives with care, attention, kindness and compassion to alleviate suffering and benefit ourselves and everyone else.”  (Mindful Compassion Partnership)

David Oldham has been working with and teaching mindfulness for over 25 years. Based in Anglesey, he is a qualified counsellor and has worked in many different settings over the years.  Around 12 years ago he developed his own Mindful Compassion approach while working at a day-care hospice and with the Macmillan Cancer Support charity. He has used this approach widely to train and help both patients and health care professionals to develop better self-care practices. He has also gone on to train individuals to run the programme. David likes to work with an individual approach tailoring each time to the individual or group that he is working with.

“We take so much from the sessions relevant to our own situations.” (Participant feedback)

David’s own practice comes from a Buddhist background, and, over the years, he has trained in other secular approaches with Breathworks, the Mindfulness Association and the Mindful Self-Compassion programme. He aspires through his work and personal practice to continue developing his own and others’ relationship with the wider world in a more non-harming way for the benefit of all. This nurturing of warmth and ease in the relationship with oneself and others and the wider world often shines through the feedback from course participants:

“Mindful compassion has gone very deep, maybe now I will think about what I say or do-that has to be good, I am treating myself better and [am] more tolerant towards others.”

“Learning to care for myself as I have always been last on the list, now I am first and I care better for everyone else.”

(Course participants)

David currently runs a fortnightly group in Amlwch on Anglesey, weekly online sessions as well as a variety of retreats of various length. Further information about his work  and opportunities to participate as well as audio guided practices can be found on the website:
